19 children have been selected by the Ministry of Water Resources to attend the 2011 World Children Festival, WCF, in the United States (US).

Participants for 2011 WCF which ends Thursday, were selected at random from the children of ministry’s staff whose grade level ranges from 12 and below. The event holds every four years since 1999 as the ‘Olympics’ of children’s creativity and co-creation.

Chief Obadiah Ando, former Minister of Water Resources, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the occasion to send off the children, said  he consented to the approval to sponsor some of the gifted children of officers on GL 12 and below as a way of expressing his profound gratitude and appreciation for the support he had from the parents of these children and the entire staff during his tenure as Minister.

Ando  charged the children participating in the World Festival in Washington DC, New York and Italy to represent Nigeria well and come back to be part of the change makers in the transformation agenda of Mr. President.

He enjoined the children to use the exposure they will get at these events to make useful contribution to the country.

The 19 children are also to attend the 2011 Giffoni Children’s Film Festival from 17 – 19 June, 2011 and Annual Youth Assembly from 20 July – 7 August, 2011.

Ambassador Godknows Igali, permanent secretary in the ministry, in his welcome speech, said the gesture was for capacity building and welfare of the staff, adding that the gesture was geared towards encouraging hardworking and brilliant children of the ministry’ staff.
