Nigeria will play Togo in the final of the 2011WAFU Nations Cup after both teams, yesterday, racked up impressive semifinal wins against Ghana and Liberia, respectively at the Moshood Abiola International Stadium in Abeokuta.
On a day that the interim President of the West Africa Football Union, Kwesi Nyantekyie, slammed the organisation of the tournament, Warri Wolves striker, Ekigho Ehiosun who is the leading Nigeria’s goals scorer, further justified his top marksmanship rating with two wonderful goals that dimmed the lights of the Black Stars 2-1.
Ghana scored first through a cleverly converted spot kick by Kweisi Gyamfi on 66th minute but Ehiosun, who has scored in all games so far played in the tournament, netted the equaliser seven minutes from regulation time.
Nigeria should have wrapped up the game in regulation time when Ehiosun was fouled in the box, resulting in a penalty on 88th minute but Stanley Okoronkwo left-footed shot hit the wood work and goalkeeper Daniel Adjei was given a breather.
But Adjei had no answer for the winner scored by Ehiosun on 117 minute. He sent Coach Samson Siasia and the other Nigerian fans into jubilation.
In the first semifinal match, Togo defeated Liberia 4-2 in an action-packed te.
Nyantekyie said overall there have been too many lapses and wants Wafu to take direct charge for the organisation of the tournament next year.
