The National Integrated Power Plant (NIPP) Sapele, yesterday, played host to Vice President Namadi Sambo and his entourage, who came to inspect the ongoing construction of 450MW power project expected to be injected into the national grid before the end of 2011.
Briefing newsmen after the inspection, the vice president said about 250MW of the project is being test-run and ready to be added to the national grid this month, while the remaining 200MW would be ready by July.
Sambo declined to state how many of the 450MW will be distributed to Deltans, as well as when power epilepsy will end in Nigeria but said when the NIPP power project is commissioned by President Goodluck Jonathan, it will generate employment for youths.
He did not comment on the status of the Ogorode Power Plant, Sapele, built in 1980s, with installed capacity of 1020MW from six steam turbines, each rated 120MW and four gas turbines, each rated 75MW.
The Public Affairs Officer of Sapele Power Station, Ogorode, Mr. Ernest Astenuwa, and the Maintenance Manager, Engr. E. Oseimober, told Sunday Vanguard that the station has restored units 1 and 2 (STO 1 and STO 2) that went on in flames on 23 November, 2010, and would restore unit 3 (STO 3) by the end of this month.
