NSE market capitalisation up by N83bn

Trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange last week opened for four days, as Monday was declared public holiday to commemorate worker day.

However, the value of listed equities represented by the market capitalisation appreciated by 83.11 billion.

Specifically, the capitalisation appreciated by 1.04 per cent to close at N8.084 trillion from N8.000 trillion at which it opened the week under review. Another key performance index, the All-Share index garnered 1.04 per cent or 258.78 bases points to close at 25,300.46 points from 25,041.68 points.

Nestle Nigeria Plc led 47 other stocks on the gainers’ table with a gain of N8.78 or 2.27 per cent to close at N395.00 per share, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc followed with a gain of N2.40 or 5.00 per cent to close at N50.40 per share and Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc garnered N2.16 or 21.39 per cent to close at N12.26 per share.

Other share price gainers include: Unilever Nigeria Plc N1.99, Dangote Flour Mills Plc N1.70, Ashaka Cement Plc N1.06, United Bank for Africa Plc N0.86, Diamond Bank Plc N1.85, Berger Paints Nigeria Plc N0.59, Nigerian Breweries Plc N0.52, among others.

On the contrary, Oando Plc led on the price losers’ table, dropping by N16.40 or 23.43 per cent to close at N53.60 per share, Dangote Cement Plc followed with a loss of N2.24 or 1.81 per cent to close at N121.26 per share and Lafarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria Plc N2.10 per share.

Other share price losers include: Africa Petroleum Plc N0.97, International Breweries Plc N0.82, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria Plc N0.69, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc N0.50, DN Meyer Plc N0.31, Grief Nigeria Plc N0.30, Guaranty Trust Assurance Plc N0.28, among.

A turnover of 1.11 billion shares valued at N8.87 billion was recorded, as transaction appreciated by 21.20 per cent in the week under review in contrast to the previous week’s turnover of 924.86 million shares valued at N9.71 billion in 17.338 deals.

The Banking sub-sector was the most active on the sectorial analysis accounting for 61.88 per cent of the market turnover with 690.29 million shares valued at N5.84 billion in 12,458 deals.
