KANO -A ranking member of the House of Representatives, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa has said that the Speakership of the 7th National Assembly will emerge on the basis of competence irrespective of ethno-religious or regional background.
Dabiri Erewa elected for the third term into the Assembly from Ikorodu Federal constituency told reporters in Kano that members will not succumb to whims and caprices of regional champions on the issue of the Speakership which was zoned to the Southwest geopolitical zone by the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN chieftain insisted that “the lower legislative house would elect the next Speaker based on his competence and not on the basis of his regional or ethnic background”.
According to her, “members of the House are interested in electing a credible individual who can effectively pilot the affairs of the House and not necessarily interested in the geo-political zone of the Speaker.”
