Bauchi -A 65-year-old man, Kadiri Mohammed, has been arraigned before a Bauchi Chief Magistrate’s Court charged with attempted homicide by setting the house of his in-laws on fire.

It was alleged that the man was protesting his in-laws’ alleged refusal to allow his wife who deserted him come back to his house.

Mohammed, who hails from Jigawan Gadau village in Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State, reportedly had a misunderstanding with his wife and she left to her guardian.

It was said that all attempts by the woman’s husband to settle the matter and take his wife back home failed.

Rather, Mohammed was allegedly given some conditions to fulfil before he would take his wife back. Such conditions allegedly included paying her debts and buying some wrappers for her.
However, instead of a furious Mohammed fulfilling the conditions, he allegedly set his in-laws’ house ablaze.

Waziri further said that the accused armed himself and went to the residence of his in-laws, Adamu Babaji, in the night and set the house ablaze, while they were all asleep pointing out that N8,000 cash, bed and mattresses valued at N26,000 and other valuables valued at N140, 000 were destroyed.
