When the Auditor-General Bill, pending before the Lagos State House of Assembly, becomes law, it will give more powers and independence to the office of the Auditor-General by placing it on first line charge.

In a address by  the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, through Mr. Sanai Agunbiade at a public hearing on the bill, the speaker explained that “when it is on first line charge it will not have to go cap in hand begging for funds to function.”

The bill tagged, A Law to provide for office of Auditor-General of Lagos State and for connected purposes, seeks to establish the office of the Auditor-General and strengthen the process of accountability.

“We are trying to strengthen that institution to ensure that it is more independent, functional and virile to enable it do its job appropriately,” Ikuforiji said.
