Calabar-The Assistant Inspector-General, AIG, of Police in charge of Zone Six Police headquarters, Calabar, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar, has urged the National Boundary Commission, NBC, to as a matter of priority, demarcate all boundaries, especially those in volatile areas that had hitherto generated fierce communal clashes.
Alhaji Abubakar in an interview in his office in Calabar, said that demarcating such boundaries will not only ascertain the true boundary between warring communities but will lay to rest, the thoughts of violence and the resultant bloody clashes between communities.
He specifically cited the contention between the Ikpayak community in Ibiono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and their Ntan Obu Eniong-Abatim neighbours in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, adding that the matter arose out of ownership of a grazing land.
As a solution to the carnage that normally take place when there are communal conflicts between neighboring communities, he said “the NBC should step up action to determine who or what belongs where. ”
On the red alert against a possible outbreak of violence, following the killing of Al-qaeda leader, Osama bin Laden as well as other contentions arising from the just concluded elections, the police chief said “we are taking the directive as serious as it is supposed to be.”
