WARRI-HOST communities to Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, operation at Jones Creek, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, have threatened to disrupt further activities in their areas should the company fail to recognise them as stakeholders in the on-going privatization of the facility.
A prominent Niger Delta activist and a youth leader in Okerenkoko community, Chief Mike Johnny, who handed down the warning while briefing newsmen in Warri, yesterday, said the communities were aware of the on-going acquisition of the flow station by Conoil but insisted on direct dealing with the host communities in the entire process rather than going through a third party.
According to him, “we, the members of these host communities from the Ijaw extraction are aware that Conoil has bought over the Jones Creek Flow Station. As peace loving people, we do not have anything against handing over the flow station but what we are opposed to is allowing a cabal, who parades themselves as middlemen for communities with the sinister motive of hijacking the entire process for their selfish interest.”
