One of the official drivers of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Eric Chonu is dead. The late Chonu, a Police Constable, met his unprepared end, weekend, after he was hit from behind while riding home, on his motorbike, along the Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway.
Eye witnesses said after he was hit and left helplessly on the expressway, calls were made to the control room,
after he managed to identify himself as a policeman but there was no response.
Again, policemen from Alagbado and Sango said to have been contacted did not arrive the scene early, as Chonu, who
was at that time bleeding profusely could hardly talk.
At that point, report said he was rushed to an undisclosed private hospital, where he was rejected on the ground
that there was no money to deposit for the commencement of treatment on him.
While effort to rush him to the general hospital was on, he reportedly gave up the ghost, having lost so much blood.
News of his death was received with shock at the command, as some of his colleagues gathered in groups discussing
the demise of one of their own.
His bereaved widow who was reached on her late husband’s telephone, expressed shock at her husband’s death, saying
if help had come on time, her husband would have lived to recount his ordeal.
Sympathizers who throng the widow’s Sango Otta abode, described the deceased as a meticulous and caring husband and father.
His corpse as gathered, had been moved to his home town in Delta state for burial.
Meanwhile the command said it was on the look out for the truck which snuffed life out of the late Constable Chonu.
