“I like to commend all voters and the good people of Delta who came in large numbers to vote to demonstrate their hunger for a free and fair election and to elect a governor of their choice.
“I came into the race for the office of the governor of Delta State about four years ago. I armed myself with a radical program which I christened the 5 steps to prosperity. I have never faltered in my determination and steadfastness.
“I mobilized men and resources, time and strategy in my unflinching readiness to finish the race for Government House. I have never had any equivocation about my preparedness and competence to do the job if given the opportunity.
“But victory did not come my way as the electorate decided otherwise and, in the spirit of political sportsmanship, I concede defeat. My party, the Action Congress of Nigeria, and I congratulate and wish the declared winner, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan well.
“We shall hold him strictly accountable for the promises made to the people of Delta State. We congratulate all our co-contestants especially Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru of the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) for the strong and remarkable showing.”
