FUTO gets substantive VC

OWERRI – The sixth substantive Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, FUTO, Professor Chigozie Cyril Asiabaka, has been appointed by the Vita Abba-led Governing Council of the institution.

Disclosing this development in a four-paragraph release, the Registrar, Mr. C.O. Omeire, stated that the appointment was confirmed during the 133rd meeting of the Governing Council held May 19, 2011.

“The Council, in accordance with the powers conferred on it by the provisions of the University (Miscellaneous Provision) Amendment Act 2003, considered the three candidates recommended to it by the selection board and appointed Professor Asiabaka,” Omeire stated.

Professor Asiabaka, who is the current Dean of the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, FUTO, will assume office as vice chancellor when the tenure of present Vice Chancellor, Professor Celestine Onwuliri, expires June 8, 2011.
