Falcons fall in Ghana!

Reigning African Queens, the Super Falcons of Nigeria will be conspicuously missing when the best women football teams gather for the football event of the 2011 All Africa Games in Mozambique, later this year.

The Nigerian Women team handled by Uche Eucharia slumped to a 2-1 defeat in the hands of the Black Queens of Ghana Sunday in Accra Ghana qualified on 3-2 aggre-gate..

After a 1-1 draw in the first leg played at the Abuja National Stadium penultimate Saturday, the Falcons began the match in Accra on a promising note.

Faith Ikidi opened scores for the Falcons in the 8th minute. The Nigerians held onto their lead to end the first half on a high.

On resumption, the Ghanaians ensured they were able to contain and frustrate their visitors until Fisa Ibrahim’s long range strike from outside the box that beat goalkeeper Precious Dede for Ghana’s equaliser.

Ghana’s moment of glory came when the centre referee spotted an infringement in Nigeria’s vital area and he pointed to the penalty spot. Rose Ampem took the resultant kick which beat keeper Precious Dede for Ghana’s winning goal.
