Rapper Eminem and Canadian teen star Justin Bieber were the big winners – with six awards each, at the Billboard Music Awards 2011 held in Las Vegas, yesterday.

Eminen won top male artist, artist of the year among other prizes, while Bieber won fan favourite and top new artist awards among his haul.

Eminen was not present at the star studded event. But Bieber in his acceptance speech said, “I’m 17,” … “Every day is crazy to me because I see so many people and I get to make so many people smile.”

Britney Spears and Rihanna opened performance at the event while other performers included Katy Perry, U2, Beyonce, Cee Lo Green,  Keith Urban and Neil Diamond among others.

Beyonce was given the Millennium Award for her musical influence and was also recognised as a role model for women.
