Edo Sports Commissioner, Hon. Iziegbe Anita Evbuomwan has applauded the Augustine Eguavoen-tutored U-23 team for steam-rolling over Liberia in their All Africa Games qualifier.played at the Ogbemudia Stadium.

The team whacked their Liberian counterparts 6-1 to move ahead on 7-2 aggregate.

Overwhelmed by the performance of the team, Honourable Evbuomwan said that the team have the potentials of becoming world beaters.

“I’m indeed happy with the performance of the team. But come to think of it, the quality of good teams are determined by home support. Benin fans have been tremendous in their support for the team and the atmosphere suits their game.

That is why we must continue to thank our sports-loving Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for his  moral and financial support”.

She however admonished the Nigeria Football Federation to follow due process as the State Governor is ever-ready to assist NFF if their request is timely and officially channelled.Governor Oshiomhole himself said that the gods of Benin kingdom would continue to play their unseen role in the victory of the team promising to make Benin a home for all their matches.

“Edo State is known for its leadership in sports. I know that Delta State has been holding the leadership in sports in trust for us. But we are back and will show our colours and reclaim our leadership role at the sports festival in Port Harcourt”, the Governor vowed.
