Denrele Edun robbed

It wasn’t business as usual for eccentric popular red carpet host, Denrele, last Friday, when at gun point he was attacked by highway robbers, losing valuables in the encounter.

The unfortunate incident happened at about 8.45pm along the Oshodi-Anthony highway on his way back from Satellite town where he’d gone to be a part of  currently filming reality show – ‘who’s got swag?’ anchored by Acquilla Njamah.
Denrele who sat in the back seat of a metallic grey 2010 Toyota Avalon with alloy wheels, was in company of three other friends when the unexpected happened.

With the car trapped in still traffic, a man was said to have suddenly emerged, hitting the driver’s side glass with a gun demanding that the car occupants surrendered their goods.
“He just kept shouting, ‘where’s the money. Where’s  the money’? The dude then snatched my (BlackBerry) Torch out of  my hand, and my

coffin-shaped bag. Inside it were my two other phones plus cash”, Denrele narrated.

The party-lover was on his way home to Ikeja to pick up invitation cards for singer May7ven’s exclusive single release party, which he was to anchor alongside Malta Guinness Street Dance host, Deji Falope. The party was billed for 10pm at the Jay Jay Okocha’s Club 10 in Victoria Island Lagos same night.

The only recently ex-SoundCity VJ, was dispossessed of three phones: his newly acquired BB Torch, a Bold2 (also BlackBerry) and an XpressMusic Nokia phone which were in his Alexander McQueen coffin-shaped bag. His friend, Wale, who drove the vehicle, also lost a (Blackberry) Torch in the incident.

“So why did Wale wind the glass down for the assaulter?”, we asked. “He panicked. It was (out of) fear”, Denrele replied.
Although the ex-VJ wouldn’t tell exactly how much cash was in the bag, it was enough to keep him away from his evening engagement that day.  And rather than brood over the incident, by Sunday the carefree host was back to himself tweeting away and refusing to be weighed down. “We just thank God. I’m grateful that nothing worse happened. I like to look on the brighter side of life”, he said playfully over the phone.
