BENIN— FORMER Governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, yesterday, urged President Goodluck Jonathan to concentrate on ensuring that power is stable in the country, saying that if that was the “only thing he is able to achieve in four years, he will be the greatest President the country ever produced.”
He argued that if there was constant power supply, the economy will be boosted and that whoever took over from him as President, will consolidate on that achievement, which according to him will make the nation greater economically.
Igbinedion who spoke to Vanguard, yesterday, said “this is no longer a political patronage but call to duty. The President now has all the powers he needs to move the nation forward. The President has to narrow his agenda and remain focused.
“He must tackle the issue of power, roads and basic infrastructures. If he is able to achieve this, Nigerians are vibrant enough to take it from there.
“Our economy will be boosted once these things are done. If the President is able to concentrate on power by ensuring that we have steady power supply, his name will be written in gold in the history of this nation.
“Frankly speaking, I have the confidence that he will achieve that because of his experience so far as former Deputy Governor, Governor, Acting President and President. He is also well learned and as one who was groomed in the creeks of the Niger Delta, he understands the sufferings of Nigerians and it is our belief that he will fix it,” he added.
On the choice of Ministers that will work with the President, Chief Igbiendion suggested that “ Mr President must put round pegs in round holes. Goal oriented people, technocrats because this is not time for politicking or experimentation. He must give back the love shown to him by majority of Nigerians by picking capable hands that will help him deliver on his promises to the people of the state”.
