Channels Kids Cup kicks off Monday

Popular Lagos Television, Channels has taken a bold step to check the dearth of talented players for the country’s junior national teams with the introduction of its competition for primary schools, tagged Channels Kids Cup.

The competition which kicks off on Monday with 24 primary schools within the western part of the country taking in the inaugural edition had its draw in Lagos Thursday with sports officers of the participating schools, top officials of the Lagos State Sports Council and State Universal Basic Education Board in attendance.

Out of the 24 schools participating, eight drew bye into the second round while 16 others will battle for the remaining eight slots in the first round in a straight knock-out.

Those who made it into the second without kicking a ball are Ladi Lak Primary School, Bariga, UNILAG Staff School, Akoka, Dr. Soyemi Memorial primary school, Festac Town and Straitgate Primary School, Magodo..

Others are Isaacville Primary School, Ketu, Santa maria Private School, Mushin, Maryland Primary School and Mimofera Primary School, Lagos Island.

Those to slug it out in the first round are International School, Agidingbi Primary School, Ochad, Bernadette, St. Stephen, Ifako International School, Muslim Mission, Tokand Schools, St. Michael, Lagos Progressive, St. Agnes, St. Paul, State Primary School and Ire Akari Estate Primary School.
