Bayelsa Assembly poll results: LP petitions SSS

By Samuel Oyadongha

Yenagoa-The Labour Party in Bayelsa State yesterday petitioned the State Security Service, SSS, over what it described as the refusal of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to accede to its request on the release of the copies of the House of Assembly results declared for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, during the last elections.

But the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Engr. Edwin Nwatalari dismissed the claim of the Labour Party saying  it was not truthful and a display of ignorance of the processes involved in the application for the declared results.

The Labour Party in a statement issued by the State Secretary, Comrade Jonny Ben, said though they had applied for the copies of the results as provided for by the Electoral Acts 2010, the authorities of INEC in the state are fanning the ember of violence and discord by its refusal to grant the request of the party and deliberately delay the submission of protest under the required time frame to the Election Petition Tribunal.
