ABUJA-LIKE the proverbial cat with nine lives, Speaker of the House Representatives, Dimeji Sabur Bankole, once again, survived a grand plan to humble him out of office yesterday, a few weeks to his hand over date.
After a 2-hour closed-door session, the House resolved that the speaker exhaustively explained the various banking transactions that transpired between the institution and the banks.
Briefing newsmen after the closed-session, Chairman, House Committee on Rules and Ethics, Ita Enang, said “the speaker has given us a graphic detail of the banking situation to the House and was satisfactorily accepted by us.
“It was a temporary thing arising from normal banking processes or transactions which he explained to us and it was amicably resolved, you saw the way the members happily reacted to the whole situation.”
On the 11 suspended members that the House owed, Enang said “ the House resolved that they should be paid immediately and, of course, you saw how happy our members were looking when they came out of the chamber.”
Asked whether the House was in any financial mess, Enang said there was nothing like that, adding that it was a normal banking transaction which would be resolved in no time.
