We’ll beat Eagles, Guinea for Nations Cup ticket – Onuorah

 By Eddie Akalonu

Ethiopia’s Nigerian-born coach, Ify Onuorah, has not only boasted that the Walya Antelopes would beat the Super Eagles in the return leg tie of the Nations Cup qualifier in June, but added that his wards will amass six vital points from the remaining matches to secure a Nations Cup ticket.

The points, he said, would come from two home wins against Nigeria and Madagascar and may be a draw in the last away game to Guinea.

Asked to expatiate, Onuorah explained he was working on a combination of factors which he hopes would produce the result to do it. He named such factors to include playing  the Eagles in high altitude which they are not used to.

He said playing in high altitude will be a great be a hindrance to the Nigerian team plus the fact that he now has enough technical knowledge about the Eagles style of play which he intends to put to good use in winning the tie.

“I have a better technical knowledge about the Eagles than before and when we get back, we will study your team on video. We intend to gather more facts about the Eagles which will make it easier for us  in the second leg. My intention is to win that match,” he said.

Onuorah who had boasted before the Abuja match that he will give the Eagles hell said, “ I now have a deeper understanding of Nigeria’s style of play and technical knowledge than before which I intend to put into fruitful use in the return leg tie to win. That plus the fact that we are putting Nigeria to play at high attitude ground are just factors that will work to our favour.”

After last weekend’s games, Ethiopia currently stands in third place among the four teams with three points behind Nigeria and leaders, Guinea. But Onuorah, who admits the number one spot is out of reach to his team as things stand right now revealed there was still hope for his team.

“If you cannot be first,  there is second place which is equally important. And that is my target  which is to make an equivocal second place finish in the group by making sure we win our  two home games against favourites Guinea and Nigeria with  six maximum points to move up to nine points and then hoping for a 50_ 50 result in the only away game against bottom riders, Madagascar.

“ Along the line I sincerely hope that something happens between Nigeria and Guinea that could leave a window for my side to exploit. Madagascar is a game I think we can cash in on to make our Nations Cup dream a reality,” he said confidently before leaving for home.
