Top Gospel Musicians making waves

Last year was a great and memorable year for the Nigerian gospel artistes. It was a historic year
of mega-breakthrough. For the first time, gospel artistes were invited to perform for President President Goodluck Jonathan and State Governors at state sponsored events.

In 2011 also, having realised the responsibility of their new status quo in Nigeria, gospel artistes have resolved to put in more efforts in lifting their calling to the next level.
We present to you the gospel artistes making waves in the country today.

Buchi
He’s one of the leading gospel artistes whose songs cut across boundaries. The multiple award winning reggae artiste is presently in the studio, recording his fifth album. The new album expected to be released this year will be impressive as he has promised to make it grand with new exciting songs.

With high-powered production led by talented and versatile produc er, Iyke Okan, the new album is bound to lift his calling to another height.

Midnight Crew
The celebrated Igwe exponents are no doubt soaring higher with the masterpiece album which has refused to bow.

The Igwe album has taken them around the world and after two years, they’re enjoying the fruits of their labour.

Being the only gospel group that was nominated among Africa’s Best Artistes at the prestigious Ghana Music Award and were held back in Ghana by gospel fans for a month, are back to the studio.

They’re working on an album which the assistant coordinator, Mike Abdul assured will be a bigger hit than Igwe.

The new album being produced by a team of selected producers, led by Igwe hit producer, Wole Oni, according to them, will drop this year with a bang

Kefee
Her music career started at the age of eight in the children’s choir. She moved on to the adult choir when she was fifteen.

Became choir director at eighteen because she could teach the three parts namely Soprano, Alto & Tenor.

In December 2003 she signed on with Alec Music and released her first solo album as a female artiste. Kefee’s “Branama” sold nine hundred thousand audio cassettes and over two million copies of CDs/VCDs in six months

The album “Branama” won her several awards which includes TOMA Awards, Nigeria Entertainment Awards, Youth Excellence Awards etc and in 2005 she released the sophomore album “Branama 2” which featured Nigeria’s top acts like Paul Plary Dairo, Sunny Neji, Pastor Goody Goody, Sound Sultan, 2shots, S.I.D, Gordons, Recky D, Rymzo. This album got her nominated for the Best African Traditional Artiste at the KORA Awards in South Africa 2005, and she eventually won the highly coveted Prize.

Gozie Okeke
The wonderful gospel artiste cum producer is always remembered for making one of Nigeria’s all-time best selling album Akanchawa.
Notwithstanding, the diligent music maker is not resting on his past glory. As expected, he has had his goldon finger prints on most of wave-making gospel albums released in the South-East of Nigeria in recent times.

Added to this, he recently released his own album to satisfy his calling and numerous fans. The new album, A Cry For Help. It is favourite music juice for traditional gospel music fans across Nigeria. The full potential of the album will be fully released this year as Gozie executes his full promoting activities and tour.

Sammie Okposo
This year marks his tenth year in the industry. Therefore, the UN Youth Ambassador and Wellu-Wellu crooner, is celebrating it in a big style, with a unique album, Statement. The album is a special gift for his teaming fans.

It is a double CD release, containing 12 tracks each. Some of the standout songs to watch out for in this album are Praiseway, God Is Good, Naso, I Go Dance, Celebrate, among others. Th album that will soon be released under Zamar Entertainment label, the private label of the newly married gospel musician and producer.

Rosemary Chukwu
She is already in cloud nine with the release of her latest album Abu Mmeri(Winners Song). The Nnam Nara Ekele exponent, who is back to her former label, Imma Ideal, to re-brand and overhaul her music, has done a good job according to gospel music fans that have devoured her palatable music menu.

Consequently sene beyond Africa, she decided to release an international single from her new album. In tha anticipated single she planned to collaborate with Grammy Award winning Soweto gospel choir. She said that the choir is interested in the deal and will join her to make the single an international hit.

Asu Ekiye
The prince of Niger Delta is a household name in the Nigerian gospel music. He has over the years stood out, singing the sophisticated Niger-Delta folk gospel, and he’s got both national and international appreciation for this.

Last year was sweet for this father of three sons as he was invited to perform for President Jonathan on many state functions. In addition, he was empowered by the presidency to empower the Niger-Delta youths with his music.

In line with his new assignment, Asu is working on a new album that will shake the music industry this year. He has even concluded work on the first single of the album titled, Seiyo(Let’s Dance).

He is presently working with ace producer and sound engineer, Zeeno Foster. Foster who replaced his former producer, Nnamdi Echezona(King Buskie), has been tasked to guide Asu in creating a rhythm that will be generally accepted.
