Oyo guber: Group urges Ladoja to step down

IBADAN-THE Patriotic Forum has advised the former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, who is the governorship candidate of the Accord Party, AP,  to allow reasoning to govern his interest by stepping down from the race.

There has been apprehension in the state that failure of the former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  to step down for the candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, could give Governor Akala another chance to govern the state again.

The forum, through its Secretary, Elder Jide Ajao, said though, the former governor had the right to contest the election, he may be unknowingly playing a spoiler’s game that would give PDP an opportunity to lead the state for another four years.

It pleaded with Ladoja to drop his ambition having steered the ship of the state for a period of four years.
But, Ladoja said he would not step down for anyone, adding that it was a lie that some chiefs in Ibadanland were pressured him to do so.

In a statement, the forum said, “It is our belief that Ladoja has a very strong political mechanism for him to have been able to nurse a political party within three months to a standard level of recognition. He is already a hero.

But with the result of National Assembly polls where Ladoja came third with 244,706 votes and Alao-Akala with 319,027 votes coming behind the ACN ’s 332,027 votes out of a grand total votes of 895,798, there is no magic that could place Ladoja ahead of ACN, yet his votes are required to reject Alao-Akala at the polls”.
