Ondo LP, PDP claim responsibility for Jonathan’s victory

BY DAYO JOHNSON

AKURE – THE victory of President Goodluck Jonathan in Saturday’s Presidential election, has pitched the ruling Labour Party, LP, led administration in Ondo State against the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Both parties are claiming glory for President Jonathan’s election victory.

It would be recalled that the LP adopted President Jonathan as its Presidential candidate and asked its members to vote for  him. Governor Mimiko personally campaigned for President Jonathan in the state and  implored the LP supporters to vote for him in the election.

In his reaction to President Jonathan’s victory, the State Chairman of LP, Dr Olaiya Oni, advised the PDP members in the State not to rejoice over what they did not participate in, saying that they abandoned their Principal to the LP during the election only for them to now want to reap where they did not sow.

“Following our Party’s (LP) ratification of the national leadership’s decision to adopt President Jonathan as our candidate for last Saturday’s election in Ondo State, we called the meeting of our leaders from across the State and asked them to mobilise our people to vote for Jonathan as President.”

But the PDP’s Director of Publicity, Ayo Fadaka in response,  said “we take serious exceptions to the fraudulent claim that the LP was responsible for the President’s victory in this State as nothing can be further from the truth.

For instance,  in Owo Local Government, Mr President recorded 18,100 votes and that was the same number that voted for the party during the National Assembly elections.”

“In Ondo where Governor Mimiko hails from only 25,465 people voted for Mr President as against the over 36,000 that voted for his party during the National Assembly elections. In fact less people came out to vote in this election than the previous so where is Mimiko’s input into this election?
