A coalition of 12 Civil Society Groups under the aegis of Governance and Campaign Transparency Monitors Thursday told the Professor Attahiru Jega-led Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, that it must get the National Assembly election scheduled for Saturday right.
Speaking at a press conference, General Co-coordinator of the civil groups, Mr Ifot Ifot said “we call on INEC Chairman to do everything within his competence to conduct all elections as scheduled and insist on the credibility and integrity of the electoral process.”
“We cannot risk another June 12, we cannot risk a truncated electoral process and we will not accept another shift in polls date as the first shift was not only a monumental failure on the part of INEC but a national disgrace.”
Ifot also insisted that Jega should assure all Nigerians that the process will not be manipulated as confidence in the electoral process under Jega is getting worrisome and has not completely allayed fears of Nigerians arising from the exposed sensitive electoral materials which were already in use before the process was botched and postponed.”
