ABAKALIKI – GOVERNOR Martin Elechi of Ebonyi state, Friday, raised alarm over plots by his political opponents to assassinate him ahead of 26 April governorship election listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
He described the assassination plot as devilish adding that none of the antics of his opponents would deter him from his resolve to march forward and transform Ebonyi state into a city of envy in Nigeria.
Elechi who disclosed this in Abakaliki in a broadcast to the people of the state noted that the PDP-led government would remain firm in its commitment to ensure a peaceful environment for orderly elections.
He said: “the falsehood being circulated in pamphlets, handbills and newspapers by my opponents are not even as devilish as their plan to assassinate me and snatch ballot boxes on election days. None of these
antics will deter us from our resolve to march forward and turn Ebonyi state to a state of envy in Nigeria.
“In all these developments, we of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have remained firm in our commitment to ensure a peaceful environment for orderly elections. We have been the victims and we are still the victims. Our supporters have either been killed or maimed. Some are lying critically sick in hospitals. Cases of arson also abound.
“There have been arrests of opposition elements with guns of different descriptions as well as machetes, bombs were discovered in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.”
