BAUCHI – Three persons have lost their lives to a fire outbreak at the VIP lodge extension in Gwallmeji area of Yelwa in Bauchi metropolis.

Vanguard gathered from eye witness that the three persons who died in the fire, include a woman and her five-month-old grandson and a seven- year-old girl, believed to be a  baby sitter .

According to the eye witness, the fire started from the room of the deceased, simply identified as Mama, when she was asleep with her grandson.

The eye witness noted that neighbours tried in vain to rescue the victims. It was gathered that by the time fire-fighters arrived, the entire 15-room building occupied mostly by students of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi had been razed down.

The Caretaker of the affected house, Mr. Adegoke Adeyinka who claimed the fire was caused by explosion from a generator set which was kept inside the room of the deceased.

He said the owner of the room was one Mrs. Doris Patrick, a HND II Student of Science Laboratory Technology, SLT, department of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi.

According to him,  Doris traveled to Kogi State to visit her husband and left her baby and a seven year old girl with her mother  and that most occupants of the 15-rooms hostel were not around at the time of the fire.
