ABUJA – MINISTER of Interior, Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho, yesterday, said all land borders will be closed to maintain free and fair election and restriction of vehicular movement.

He said the closure will commence from 12 noon on Friday, April 1, 2011 to 6.00 a.m. on Sunday, April 3, 2011, adding that this was to ensure a peaceful and hitch free conduct of the 2011 National Assembly elections taking place on Saturday.

In a statement made available to Vanguard, the minister said that the vehicular movements have been restricted nationwide from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on the election day. He added that only INEC vehicles, security operatives specially assigned for election duties as well as those on essential and emergency duties, would be allowed to ply the roads.
