Babatunde Raji Fashola, the governor of Lagos State has continued to touch the lives of Nigerians through his good governance and humanitarian.
In sports, Fashola has established programmes to return Lagos to the glorious past when they dominated in sports before Delta State took over.
Today, the strides of Emmanuel Uduaghan in sports have even widened the gap Delta had established in their leadership.
However, Fashola is building bridges and one aspect of this is his welfare for athletes and sports administrators. He has a foundation in this respect. It was against this background that he promptly intervened when former Olympic coach Willy Bazuaye who was dying in Benin over poor health conditions.
Peter Fregene who was also dying was given a new lease of life after the assistance of Fashola. Days after he heard that Sunday Eboigbe, a one time super defender for Nigeria was down with stroke in Benin Fashola directed former Nigeria Football Federation Vice President, Amanze Uchegbulam to move Eboigbe to Lagos for medical attention.
“Governor Fashola is at again,” Uchegbulam said yesterday adding “he has directed me to search forEboigbe and bring him down to Lagos for medical attention. It was the same thing he did for Fregene, Bazuaye and a host of others.
If our leaders could be like him our sports men would highly be encouraged to put in their best whenever they are competing for Nigeria. Fashola is a true leader who must be emulated because he is touching many lives and not only those of Lagosians.”
