The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) alleged yesterday a plot to rig the governorship and state assembly elections in Lagos State and accused a former presidential adviser as the brain behind the plot.
Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the ACN national publicity secretary, said the plot involved a war chest of N200 million, out of which a “token” of N30 million had already been released, in a bid to compromise the 20 Electoral Officers (EOs), by offering each at least N2 million.
He said the ex-presidential adviser met yesterday with the EOs at TBS Complex in Lagos .
The ex_presidential adviser told the EOs that there is a war chest of N200 million for the operation, adding that if they could buy into the plot, the lowest any of them would take home would be N2 million.
To demonstrate their seriousness, the ex_aide released N30 million on the spot, adding that the remainder of the budget would be released as soon as the job was done.
But warning on the dire consequences of such an affront on the will of the people, the ACN warned President Goodluck Jonathan to call to order the former senator and her foot soldiers, as the president cannot afford to worsen the post_presidential election crisis in the country.
“This aide is trying to import the mode of election rigging in the Niger Delta to Lagos . The president should call the ex_aide to order, because the Lagos electorate are too sophisticated to be taken in by such satanic and cheap tricks,” Alhaji Lai warned in the release.
