THE Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN) in Ogun State has raised an alarm over alleged plot to assassinate its Governorship Candidate in the April 26 polls by planting bombs in his private residences in both Abeokuta and Lagos.
Publicity Secretary of the party; Alhaji Sola Lawal said in a statement in Abeokuta that the alleged plot to kill Senator Ibikunle Amosun was uncovered by security agents and commended them for promptly taking steps to nip the plan in the bud by increasing security for Amosun as the governorship poll approaches.
He said that the party would not treat the alleged plot with levity as “there are cases of unresolved murders since the inception of the Gbenga Daniel government in the state, including that of the party’s candidate in the 2007 governorship election, Otunba Dipo Dina.
“We recall the attacks on Amosun in the course of his campaigns at Ilaro and Igbesa as well as the killing of one of our supporters, Tajudeen Bello in Abeokuta during the National Assembly polls. But for the vigilance of the party and its members, more atrocities would have been committed against the ACN members and supporters”.
The ACN said it will not sit back and watch the life of its candidate threatened again this time around as its nonchalance in the past has been of grave consequences.
“While we have all along been conducting our activities and campaigns peacefully and in accordance with the rule of the game, our opponents have since been engaging in unhealthy plots and they have been getting away with it”.
