*He has no political relevance – Akala
BY OLA AJAYI
IBADAN – AS the April elections draw near, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo State, Senator Lekan Balogun, has said his group is still opposed to the second term bid of Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala who is seeking re-election.
But, Governor Akala in response, said the PDP chieftain had gone into political oblivion.
As far as Governor Akala who spoke through his Special Adviser on Public Communication, Prince Dotun Oyelade, is concerned, the aggrieved chieftains of the party had no political relevance that can stop his re-election.
Balogun, who said his group would support the dream of President Goodluck Jonathan’s ambition, in a statement said, everything would be done to make sure that Governor Akala was shown the way out of Agodi Government House in less than a month from now.
His words; “Oyo State must be liberated from the shackles of hustling, conservative politicians as well as fake ‘progressives’. The people must begin to decide the fate of the state”.
His group, he claimed had started compiling the list of candidates that would fill 51 elective slots in the state, adding that the list did not give any consideration to party or religious inclinations.
In his response, Akala said, “If wishes were horses, beggars will ride. Sen Balogun has no say in the next election and so we do not reckon whatsoever with his sentiment. There is a difference between media politics and electoral value. We know those who are influential in his local government, Lagelu and those were the ones we addressed last week when we were there”.
Notable chieftains of the party including Elder Wole Oyelese, Mr. Azeem Gbolarumi, Sen Balogun, had rejected the alleged concocted results of the state congress that produced Akala as the party’s flag bearer for the April poll. The case is still in court.
