WILL the tenure of Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan end on May 29, this year or on January 10, 2015? This is a question that an Asaba Federal HighCourt is expected to answer today.
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had last month ruled that no governorship election should hold in five state – Kogi, Sokoto, Cross River, Bayelsa and Adamawa, whose governors (except Rivers)won re-run elections after their first election was nullified by the courts and they got sworn-in on different dates other than May 29, 2007 when most of their peers across the country got into office.
According to Justice Adamu Bello, the presiding judge, the tenure of the affected five governors would expire in 2012.
Lapping on the judgment, Uduaghan in February filed a suit at the Federal High Court, Asaba, asking the court to define his tenure in office.
