Sports Group rises for Goodluck

A one-day sports campaign was held in honour of President Goodluck Jonathan at the National Stadium, Lagos at the weekend.

The event, which was held by a group, Sports People for Jonathan,  in partnership with Neighbour to Neighbour group had sportsmen holding demonstrations in basketball, boxing, kung fu, tug-of-war while participants also took part in the keep-fit exercises.

President of the Nigeria Olympian Association (NOA), Henry Amike, who is also the head of mobilization for the group, noted that it was unique for athletes to support a Presidential candidate.

Amike, a former 400 metres hurdles champion also said that the prompt payment of athletes’ allowances and winning bonus at the last Commonwealth Games in India showed that Jonathan was committed to the welfare of athletes.
