Samson Siasia does not envisage any clash between him, coach of the Under 20 team, Sam Obuh and that of the Olympic team, Austin Eguavoen.
Two players, Nwankwo Obiorah and Nnamdi Oduamadi of Parma and AC Milan respectively were invited by Siasia and Eguavoen for national assignments next week.
Eguavoen leads the Olympic team against Equatorial Guinea in Benin on March 26 while Siasia’s Eagles face Ethiopia in a Nations Cup qualifier the following day in Abuja.
That appeared a clash. Siasia later left out Obiorah for Eguavoen but insisted that Oduamadi will play for Eagles. He spoke to us yesterday:
“I don’t see it as clash. We all need to work together. I have eyes on the Olympic team and Under 20 team. My target is the World Cup as I build a team that Nigerians can be proud of. I see some of the players in Olympic team and the Under 20 team joining some of the ones in the current Eagles on our way to the next World Cup.
It’s a process and it takes time. We hope to be on the right track all the way up so we cannot begin to raise issues that will not work for our collective success. I have eyes on all the teams including the Under 17 when they are formed.
That is the only way to move forward. There should not be distractions but collective will on the part of all of us. We are beginning our journey to the next World Cup and must march on strongly and together too”
