Sekibo condemns attack on members

By Gbenga Oke

The Abiye Sekibo Campaign Organisation, ASCO, has condemned attacks on its supporters across Rivers State by the thugs suspected to be sponsored by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The organisation, however, said that it will not be intimidated by the antics of the PDP in the state, adding that attacks on the party faithful will not deter ACN from achieving victory at the polls.

In a statement by the Director of Publicity of the campaign organisation, Mr Jerry Needam, he said  that developments in the last few days in Rivers State, had shown that the PDP was out to foment trouble ahead of the elections in the state.

He said, “recent clampdown on ACN supporters in Rivers State has clearly shown that the PDP led government in the state is trying to intimidate ACN.

According to him, “former Commissioner for Information and ACN House of Representatives candidate for Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency narrowly escaped being kidnapped, yesterday, when some thugs believed to be sponsored by PDP, attacked him.”

He went further, “armed thugs in their numbers immediately swooped on the ACN members shortly after they had addressed some traditional Rulers in the Council and started damaging vehicles, stealing and looting mobile phones and money from the ACN members and as the pandemonium lasts, some of the thugs held the ACN House of Representatives Candidate for Ikwerre/Emohua constituency, Barrister Emma Okah hostage
and was forcing him to an unknown destination when some ACN members resisted them and freed him from their grip before the Commissioner of Police later sent police team from Rumuji to rescue the distressed ACN members”
