AKURE – THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ondo State yesterday accused the state government of planning to witch hunt the immediate past Governor Olusegun Agagu by instituting a probe panel two years after he left office.
Addressing newsmen, the State Chairman of PDP, Dr Tayo Dairo said the probe of the former governor is “a petty witch hunting and outlandish politicking that is not issue driven.
Dairo added that “but in so doing, he must have re soundly confirmed to the entire world his content as a man and an administrator.
“Of course questions will be asked why he is doing this particularly now that Dr Agagu is a Senatorial candidate on the platform of the PDP and over two years into his tenure. The ready answer will be petty witch hunting and outlandish politicking that is not issue driven.
The Chairman, however, added “we encourage him to embark on this voyage into infamy and we assure him that he will be worsted for it.
But the Chief Press Secretary to the governor Kolawole Olabisi in a swift response said” it did not lie with the opposition party to tell the government the time and the schedule of the probe panel, saying the panel when it comes will put the records straight.
Olabisi said the statement of the PDP on the probe panel showed that they have ‘skeleton in their cupboard’ during their six years reign in the state.
“Agagu has dared us to probe him saying his hands are clean. Why is he now afraid of probe? We have the inalienable right to set up a probe panel. It is our right to probe them and they cannot tell us the time and how.”
