MAKURDI -A new twist has emerged in the alleged shooting of General Lawrence Onoja and the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, deputy governorship candidate, Alhaji Usman Abubakar, by supposed political thugs as the Nigeria Police Wednesday declared that it was not aware of any political rally by the ACN in the area the victims claimed they were shot.
Area Commander of the Benue South Police, Mohammed Lawal, argued that contrary to stories making the round, the police were not in custody of the vehicle that the ACN Benue South Senatorial candidate was driving in when he was allegedly attacked.
Fielding questions from newsmen in Otukpo on the attack on General Onoja’s convoy, the Benue South Area Police Commander said the police were not aware of any political rally by the ACN, hence it could not provide security cover for the party at the said rally.
Lawal insisted that the vehicle that was brought to the District Police Headquarters was conveying another chieftain of the ACN, explaining that the vehicle was damaged with stones and not bullets.
