Mohammed Shehu Kangiwa could not hide his excitement when he was called to receive the giant trophy he won in this year’s St. Patrick’s Golf Tournament at the IBB International Golf and Country Club.

Playing off handicap seven, Kangiwa posted 37 points in the Stableford tournament that was bankrolled by PW Nigeria Limited to emerge the overall winner for the Brian Lappin Trophy; his first ever victory in the 17-year old tournament and in any competition at the club.

“It pays to practice. I did not been play well in the previous tournaments staged at the club, because I did not practice. But this time, I made efforts to practice and it paid off. If I had been practicing

I would’ve won some of the prizes in the previous tournaments held here”, Mohammed Shehu Kangiwa said after lifting the trophy.

Abdul Nasidi, a handicap 13 won the men’s category A (0-18 Handicap) with 36 points and Patrick Chidolue, a handicap 12 posted 35 points on count-back to settle in the second position while Sam Anyamele, a handicap 13 finished in the third position after scoring 35 points.

Emeka Okatta fired 271 metres to win the longest drive title while Farida Wada, who has been dominating the longest drive crown added with ease the St. Patrick’s tournament  with 188m drive.

Chairman PW Nigeria Limited, Lieutenant General Garba Duba (rtd) said the 17-year old tournament would remain a feature in the IBB Golf Club programme.
