In line with its tradition of celebrating Nigeria’s literary icons, the Association of Nigerian Authors, ANA announces for the benefit of writers, academics, critics and friends of literature at home and in the Diaspora the planned celebration this year, of its past Chairman of Rivers State Branch and one time, National President of ANA, Environmental and Human Rights Activist,late Ken Saro Wiwa.
As part of activities lined up for the celebration, ANA is said to putting together a five-day programe which includes; an international colloquium on the theme: Ken Saro Wiwa: Literature and the National Question.
The colloquium according to a release made available to Vanguard arts, is billed to hold at the University of Port Harcourt from Wednesday, 10th through Sunday, 14th August 2011 and will feature plenary sessions, where scholars will present papers that will form the body of a book that will be published to commemorate the event.
Also, a competition on the adaptations of the late Saro Wiwa’s works of poetry and prose to stage, and staging of the winning entry as well as exhibition of his manuscripts, his books, rare documents in his possession and books by other writers will take place during the period. There will also be a visit to Ogoni Land, where a ‘Literary Party will be held in his honour.
