Group flays attack on Ngige, Okonkwo by hoodlums

AWKA – A group, Congress for Igbo Renaissance, has condemned Monday’s sceptre of violence visited on Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, candidate, Dr. Chris Ngige, and Senator Annie Okonkwo, who is Accord Party’s standard bearer, both of Anambra Central senatorial district, by hoodlums alleged to be APGA supporters.

The group, in a statement by Prince Jonathan Ibekwe,National Coordinator  in Awka yesterday, described the attack as a shameful and desperate political maneuver bordering on criminality.

It said:  “From available evidence and facts reaching us as stakeholders in the integrity process of April elections in Anambra, we view this grave erosion of confidence in an otherwise relatively peaceful political campaigns, so far, as a premeditated plot.

“Such bare-faced desperation to rake up political capital from a criminal travesty of democratic norms is decidedly worrisome and obviously scandalous.

“We, therefore, call on Governor Peter Obi to kindly help us preserve what little respect is left  of Anambra State after the Peoples Democratic Party’s type of do-or-die-politcs as witnessed in the past.”

Mr. Ibekwe said further that “the democratic thirst and yearnings of mobilized Anambrarians to exercise their freedom in the April elections should not, and must not be abbreviated by conduct such as this, because a stitch in time saves nine”.
