Many people, particularly in Lagos, Abuja and other cities in Nigeria cannot afford the luxury of living in very spacious apartments. In fact, most of the houses being built in the urban centres are so small that a very little space is earmarked for home conveniences. How to effectively manage the little space provided for these conveniences in the tiny apartment becomes the biggest challenge before the homeowner and interior decorators.
A bathroom is a room containing a bathtub or shower, usually a sink and a toilet. Assuming you find yourself living in an apartment with a tiny bathroom space, you should try the following steps to make the space more efficient.
The first section that should be looked at is the bathtub to ensure that it is taking up a large chunk of the space in the bathroom. The ideal bathtub to go for if you want to optimise space is the corner bathtub. The corner bathtub offers some special design advantages and can give your bath a unique and stunning look.
This type of tub is often selected to solve design problems and can be effective in a small bath to better utilise space. Although small in size, it can be a splendid addition to the bathroom and because it goes in a corner, it will take up less space than long bathtubs that take up a lot of space in the bathroom. An online report noted that there are numerous choices and styles available in corner bath now days hence you should conduct thorough research before making a choice. “While looking for a corner bathtub, you need to consider both functionality and style along with the safety aspects. Moreover, another important aspect that should be kept in mind while making your selection is the size of your bath room and other accouterments, which you will be installing in that area
The next item to consider after the bathtub is the material. “The best material would most likely be acrylic because it is malleable, can be molded to fit the bathroom corner, is easily cleaned and lasts longer than other materials. Also, since the colour is throughout the material, it maintains colour better.
Interior decorators posit that mirrors can completely make an area seem bigger and more inviting. One large mirror or even an entire wall of the bath being converted to a mirror can offer the illusion of double the space that actually is available.
If you are considering putting mirrors on your bathroom walls for decoration, you should also take your lighting into consideration.
Ensure the tiles or the colours of the walls are light, not deep and dense as this would create a more cramped ambience. Light colours offer the illusion of more light and space than do darker colors. Ideally even the flooring of the bathroom should be light colored. If it is not possible to do so, use a light colored carpet or rug to do the job.
If your lighting sources are scarce and you have room on a vanity or shelf in the bathroom consider adding a little lamp which will make the bathroom more intimate, cozy and personable.
