Delta reads riot act to contractors

UGHELLI- DELTA State Government, yesterday, vowed to expose contractors handling its projects in the state,  should they fail to make reasonable progress in the contracts awarded to them before the April general elections.

Speaking at Kokori, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state, the state Commissioner for Special Duties, Warri Water project, Mr Solomon Edojah, said that it was a disservice to the people and the government for contractors to fail to execute projects awarded to them.

Noting that the nonchallant attitude of the contractors,  particularly  those in the Central Senatorial District of the state, Edoja said the state government was prepared to indentify such persons and expose them because the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has “done his bit and it is we, the people who are losers by these people failing to execute the projects awarded to them.”

According to him, “it is in the opinion of government that one of the ways to empower people is to concentrate projects in the hands of those who would be affected by such projects and by that way, if the people are committed, they will do it very well.

“But what we have seen is that most of these jobs are given to indigenes of these communities where these jobs will be used but these people have not only failed the government, they have failed the people.
“This attidute is more noticable in Delta Central Senatorial District and those involved are the most vociferous members of the community.

“They cry to high heavens, passing buck that the South and North Senatorial Districts were more sophisticated, whereas in the North, they are delivering. They are indigines of the area. If they collect the money and the job is not done, it will be noticeable,” he added.
