By Peter Duru

MAKURDI — The Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has raised an alarm over what the party described “as the unwarranted violent attacks on its members by the supporters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.”

The party lamented that the ugly incident was coming few days after all the main parties in the state signed an undertaking at the State Security Service, SSS,  office in Abuja to maintain peace in the state during and after the forthcoming elections.

In a statement by its state  chairman, Comrade Abba Yaro, and made available to Vanguard, the party lamented that the actions of the ruling party was inimical to the smooth conduct of the forthcoming polls in the state. ACNalleged that on March 26, 2011, the PDP unleashed a gang of armed men against some of its members after Senator George Akume, the party’s North-West senatorial candidate had addressed a rally in Tarka.

“After the departure of the senator from Tarka, the PDP unleashed a gang of armed men against our members injuring more than eight who suffered bullets wounds and machete cuts”, the party said.

The party gave the names of those injured as David Ibaga, Terseer Samu, Isaac Tyoor, Akha Gbenda, Edward Uparegh, Ityo Anshe, Terhile Akpi and Isaac Igba.

The ACN frowned at the attitude of the Police who allegedly opened fire at demonstrators protesting the abduction of Moses Kuma, a UniAgric student and shot two of its members, Ortar Yernya and Saarwuan Tarkaa.
