FOR the Speaker of the House of Representatives; Mr. Dimeji Bankole, Saturday’s election would be a straight fight between him and the Action Congress of Nigeria [ACN] candidate; Engr. Segun Williams.

Interestingly, this Federal Constituency is a single local government as against three in other constituencies.
Bankole had been elected to the House of Representatives twice; in 2003 and 2007. He became the Speaker after the removal of Patricia Etteh.

Bankole has focused his re-election campaigns on the constituency projects he did in the local government. He is believed to have a huge war chest in terms of finance considering his position in the House.

His jingles have saturated the airwaves since the commencement of his campaign about two weeks ago while his posters adorn walls all around the local government area.

Bankole however has problems with people who see him within the Governor Olugbenga Daniel camp who as dumping the group for the President Olusegun Obasanjo camp after participating in and obtaining the ticket on the platter of gold.

Engr. Williams is however countering him with a house to house campaign which many believed could help him should other negative forces gather against the Speaker. Although he may not be as financially empowered as Bankole, Williams is gifted with the support of the ACN machinery which has become very strong in the state especially with former Governor Olusegun Osoba’s influence and that of the party’s governorship candidate; Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
