Organisers of the 2010 Rivers State Governor’s Cup, NNPC/Shell, are excited with the award presented to the company for their aggressive drive in developing and promoting sports at the grassroots.
NNPC/Shell, sponsor the successful Rivers State Governor’s Cup as well as the NNPC/Shell Cup for secondary schools in Nigeria with the aim of discovering raw talents for the Under-17 national team, the Golden Eaglets.

The Shell Petroleum development Company ,a joint venture between NNPC,Shell/Total/Agip have partenered with the Rivers State Football association to create an enduring legacy for grassroots football since 2009. Facilitator of the Rivers State Governor’s Cup, Amadike Enyadike said he was pleased with the award as it showed that the authorities were on the lookout for good work and rewarding such achievements.
“I was pleased to learn about the news. While we were doing this, we did not know anyone was watching but I am happy that our hard work has now been rewarded,” he told SuperSport.com. On his part, Manager Social Performance Shell Port Harcourt, Emeka Obi, said the company will not relent in its obligations.
“We will continue to support sports at the grassroots because we believe that is where the future of our country’s sports lies. “We are happy with the award and it will spur us to do more,” he added
