MAKURDI – Two suspected criminals who disguised as members of the Benue State Special anti-Crime patrol team code-named ‘Operation Zenda’ have been killed by men of the Benue State Police Command.
Parading the dead suspects with fake Police Sergeant Force number 94885 and the other in military uniform at the state police headquarters, Makurdi, the Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed, explained that the syndicate team specialised in terrorizing motorists along Makurdi-Otukpo road.
He disclosed that the suspected robbers had on January 15, 2011, in Ikpayongo, disarmed a Deputy Superintendent of Police of his service pistol and also robbed motorists of their goods and money.
According to him, the Police were alerted of their nefarious activities, stressing that both robbers were shot dead in an exchange of gun fire with his men.
Mohammed reiterated the commitment of men and officers of the command to the protection of lives and property of the people of the state.
He added that the police would not take lightly to cases of thuggery and political violence in the state, advising parents to keep a close tab on the activities of their wards in order to dissuade them from engaging in anti-social activities.
