Security beefed as Jonathan rally hits Jos

By Taye Obateru
Security has been beefed up in Jos,  the Plateau State capital,  ahead of today’s campaign rally by President Goodluck Jonathan at the Rang Pam Township Stadium.

The security beef up, Vanguard learnt, was necessitated by Tuesday’s outbreak of fresh hostilities in the troubled state and rumours of plans by some people to disrupt the rally.

Major roads likely to be used by the president’s convoy were cordoned off  in preparation for the president’s anticipated arrival yesterday from Jalingo Taraba State after the rally there.

Armed personnel carriers were stationed at strategic places while vehicles were diverted to other routes.

Meanwhile security agencies have asked owners of broken down vehicles along major highways to remove them while security sources, said cars might be barred from parking within the vicinity of the stadium out of security concerns.

It was learnt that the President who spent the night in Jos might use the opportunity to meet with various groups on the persistent violence in the state.
