Police burst criminal hideout in Imo

*Recover rocket launchers, dynamite

By CHIDI NKWOPARA
Imo State Police Command  has arrested four suspects with rocket launchers, dynamite and other dangerous weapons at a criminal hideout at Nwangele local council area of the state.

The current success story came barely one week after the command crushed a dare-devil gang of kidnappers, which had in the past terrorized Ngor Okpala and Mbaise axis, recovered their arms and rescued their victims.

Disclosing this to newsmen in Owerri, the Commissioner of Police, CP, Mr. Ibrahim Maishanu, explained that his men acted on credible information from their informant before raiding the hideout.

He said: “When a thorough search was conducted, one AK 47 rifle loaded with double magazine, one RPG shooting rifle, 57 fully loaded AK 47 magazines, 131 rounds of AK 47 ammunition, two vehicle registration plate numbers and one Honda electric generating set and two fully loaded assault rifle magazines were recovered.”

The CP also disclosed that his men equally recovered N304,406.90 cash, five dynamites with 10 propellers, two anti-tank rocket launchers, five handsets, two masks, nine bundles of charm and a refrigerator.

“In all, about 1,631 rounds of AK 47 ammunition were recovered. The command is working assiduously, taking preemptive and proactive actions to contain the influx of hoodlums from neighbouring states, in line with our belief that crimes are better prevented than detected,” the CP said.

Recalling with glee the recent N1 million reward for any person that gives credible information leading to the arrest of kidnappers and armed robbers announced by  Governor Ikedi Ohakim, Maishanu also said the strategy had proved very effective.

“This strategy has proved to be very effective and people have started benefitting from it. I, therefore, call on those who have credible information to come forward with it and benefit from the same award,” the CP pleaded.
