PEOPLES Democratic Party,PDP, chieftain in Anambra State Senator Emma Anosike, has dismissed discordant tunes trailing President Goodluck Jonathan’s speech at the party’s South West presidential rally, saying the speech did not translate to policy statements.
He also cautioned people from using the statement to score political points, noting that Nigerians should focus on seeing that President Jonathan received massive votes so he could settle down and provide quality leadership.
Anosike, who disclosed this in a chat with newsmen, said any presidential candidate who might be seeking for votes in the South East was wasting his or her own time because people of the zone had made up their minds to give President Jonathan hundred percent of their votes, irrespective of political, religious or any other affiliation.
According to him, “a political rally is like a jamboree. Rally statements do not transform to policy statements and government directions, so I don’t understand the controversy people are trying to raise over a harmless rally statement. If you read the President’s explanations on his facebook, you would see that some people deliberately decided to misrepresent the statement in order to aggrandise some cheap political points but like I said, that too would fly because Nigerians are wiser today; Nigerians know the president they want and they have seen him in President Jonathan.”
While explaining why Ibo delegates voted massively for the president at the PDP presidential primaries, Anosike said Jonathan’s presidency would arguer well for the people of the south east.
“Igbo people have suffered enough in Nigeria politics and they know that President Jonathan is the right person God has positioned to address the knotty issues affecting our people over the years. Those who think that Igbos are stupid and not united when it comes to politics are making a mistake. We are wiser today and you could see that in the way South East delegates voted massively for President Goodluck Jonathan during the PDP Primary election in Abuja last month,” Anosike added.
